The Weekend Overview

Dear Friends,
For those of you who want to learn more about the camp facilities and what happens at camp, check out this family camp overview.

Camp Wapogasset, our location

Originally selected because of its ability to accommodate our Summer Camp and our Family Camp families with private sleeping areas with bathrooms, we have found Camp Wapo to be welcoming and a breath of fresh air, literally! The dorms are set up with multiple sleeping rooms, most with private bathrooms, surrounding a common living room space. The larger Lodges have kitchenettes with coffee pots, microwaves and refrigerators for your use; however, you will find out there is no reason to bring food. The meals are plentiful and delicious and will be served in Martins Commons Dining Hall! Since Camp Wapo is not a dedicated camp for handicapped children, there is carpet in the dorms. Most of the beds are twin sized in case you want to bring sheets, but sleeping bags are often the easiest. The camp is on a peninsula between two lakes and beautiful. Don’t forget to pack a flashlight: you might need it, but most outdoor areas are well lit at night!

After many years of late night Friday night arrival with no warm dinner to welcome you, we now have the ability to start earlier on Friday!  We encourage all our families to take a vacation day on Friday, skip rush hour traffic and arrive at 1:00 p.m., leave your luggage in the car, relax at a table in Martin’s Commons, and have a leisurely lunch. After lunch you can move into your rooms, make your beds and get settled. While we are still in the process of creating our new expanded schedule, Friday after lunch will be mostly dedicated to family time.  Let your teens who have been to Summer Camp give you the grand tour and regale you with stories of their Summer Camp experiences.  If you are new to the camp, ask to join those who have been there.  If you are familiar with the grounds, please offer to give the new people a tour.

The Schedule
Our new expanded Schedule for the weekend is still under construction. Please check back in a few weeks.

“Getting to know you…”

Family Camp is a great chance to get to know some new families. Even though many of our families have come before, they are from many different Orthodox churches, so they may be new to you. Try to get to know a few new people. We are all trying to do the same thing…getting to know our faith better and making sure our kids know each other. Some of the best tips you may find will come from those in attendance! You will have a chance to get to know people Friday afternoon as well as in sessions, in your cabins, at meals, etc. Your folder will include a list of all families with children’s ages and churches attended to make it easier to find families with kids, similarly aged.

Fabulous Volunteer Staff:

Where to begin? So many people offer their help in putting this camp together. Thank you to all! We have a fabulous children’s curriculum written by talented Orthodox educators from area churches.

We hope you’ll join us!!!

In Christ,
Fr. Tim and the Family Camp Task Force
